Proven Cases by Forensic DNA Tests
The news about James Baines, the Florida resident who spent 35 years in the slammer for a crime he has just now been shown to be unrelated to has actually shaken the religion folk have in the justice system. But to these folk, the rationale Baines was released should bring a much-needed boost to their religion : no surprise there, it was classy DNA forensics that claimed the day.
All over the country, 246 wrongfully convicted people, serving time in jail, have been released and exonerated by DNA forensics, though nobody served for so long as the trusting and happy-looking Baines who walked free the 1st time in a 3rd of a century. At least, Florida law does grant a specific amount of nominal justice for all the incorrect done to him – he gets an automated grant of $50,000 for each unfair year he spent in prison.
The country definitely places a large amount of trust in DNA forensics, and correctly so. There is however many a slip, as one says. It has been said that the laws round the country that deal in picking up DNA samples from known wise guys, are extremely mystifying to most law enforcement agencies. So it seems that for a good part of the time, no DNA gets picked up. A state guess puts the number at roughly 1,000,000, for samples that jail authorities could legally have picked up but just did not. And when they are doing collect them, a lot of the time they’ll simply lose them : the authorities in Wisconsin found more than ten thousand DNA samples gone missing lately. Naturally stuff like this can occur, seeing how swamped these departments are now.
They assert that there are presently nearly 1,000,000 samples just sitting on the shelves round the country because they aren’t enough trained folks to check those samples. Now before you realise it, they’re possibly going to shift all those samples to some poor 3rd world country : outsourcing the work there aren’t enough trained folk in this country for. And who knows where which will take us. The Apple PC company a year or two gone scouted in India for a good call center to handle their work. They are saying Steve Roles came away empty-handed, so unsuitable was the standard of call center work done there. One just wonders what would occur if they shipped over DNA forensics work to a place where even call-center work quality is unsuitable. But maybe that will be a better choice than merely letting those samples sit on a shelf for 10 years here. Over in the United Kingdom, the laws ruling DNA sample collections aren’t truly developed yet. The police there now are claimed to be racially profiling black folks, just arresting them “on suspicion ” just so they can get their DNA samples on record. DNA forensics is actually the best hope today for justice.
Nevertheless it still has to get past lot of hopeless inclinations in the folks that handle it.
